Map Turtles

Pet Map turtles are diverse, including popular varieties like the Mississippi Map, False Map, and Ouachita Map turtles. While each species has unique markings and shell shapes, they share a need for clean, spacious water tanks with warm basking areas. Mississippi Map turtles, for example, have beautiful, thin yellow lines on their shells, while Ouachita Maps have thicker, darker markings.

Caring for a Map turtle can be challenging. They’re active swimmers, requiring larger enclosures, proper lighting, and filtration systems to thrive. These turtles can be skittish and prefer not to be handled often, making them a better fit for observation rather than interaction. Map turtles also need a balanced diet of protein and leafy greens. Adopters should research each species’ specific care needs before bringing one home.
